Slicer issues Prusa Slicer vs Cura?
Post Body

So back in early 2018 I purchased an Anet A8 kit and built it. The printer printed excellent for about a month, at that point I ran into an issue with pimples on prints that I absolutely could not fix. I ended up buying a Monoprice Maker Select V2 and used it without issue until last fall when I bought an MP10 to use along with the Maker Select V2.

Last week I dug the A8 out and decided to see if I could get it going again. I tightened all the screws, checked the belt tension, and made sure the guide rods were all good and straight with no binding. The first thing I printed was a Calicat using Prusa Slicer, it came out great. I then tried a Benchy and kept getting weird layer shifting about halfway up. About halfway up the print it suddenly got about .030" wider all the way around, like a step in the model. It wasn't typical layer shift where it's like the whole print shifted to one side or the other.

I tried adjusting a few things over the past couple of days both on the printer and in Prusa Slicer and nothing changed which led me to believe it must be a slicer issue. Back when I first got the A8 I was using Cura as a Slicer, shortly thereafter I switched to Prusa Slicer as I liked it better overall and it was a lot less overwhelming when it came to print settings. Come to think of it that was about the time I started having issues with the Anet A8.

I have only ever used Prusa Slicer with my Maker Select V2 and MP10. So after having issues with the Anet A8 and Prusa Slicer the last few days I tried Cura and my weird layer shift went away, perfect Benchy.

So my question is is there a known compatibility issue between Prusa Slicer and Anet A8 printers and/or firmware? I'd really like to use Prusa Slicer as it takes up less space, runs smoother, and seems more intuitive to use. But if I have to use Cura I guess I don't have much of a choice.

Any advice would be greatly apprciated, thanks.
