Printer stops extruding in the first 3 layers or so. It’s not a clog, heat bleed, or uneven bed. What could be the culprit?

EDIT: Heat Creep, not Heat Bleed

The print starts out fine, then just stops early on in the print. It isn’t a clog or a bulge in the filament, it looks fine if I pull it out. If I click load filament without touching it after canceling the print, it feeds through just fine. I’ve also leveled the bed several times, and extruded just as expected at first, but then stops completely between the first and third layers.

I did have issues with heat creep in the past, but after I reinsulated the hot end with extra ceramic and kapton tape that stopped. Settings below.

  • Printer: Replicator 2x
  • Slicer: Makerbot Desktop
  • Material: ABS
  • Extruder Temp: 230 C
  • Bed Temp: 100 C
  • Printing with raft and support
  • Extrusion Speed: 70 mm/s (30 for first layer)
