3D scans for accurate facial measurements
Post Body

Hey!

My intended use of 3D scan is probably a lot different to what most people on here would want to use it for: craniometry, and the measure of facial ratios and proportions.

Almost all facial ratios and proportions that need to be measured can be taken from a 2D image, either of the front profile or the side profile. Initially, I wanted to find the best way to take front / side profile images while reducing distortion. 2D photos will never give 100% precision for measurements however.

3D scans comes in here: by creating a precise and accurate 3D model of the face, I should be able to take sections from the scan to get accurate images of the side and front profiles?

I wanted to get some advice on what you guys think of my approach, as advise from photography forums have led me here! Do you think this is a better idea than trying to take an accurate as possible 2D photo? Would photogrammetry work here, or is a good scanner required?

Thanks!
