Black screen of death or low battery?

So I just brought a 2DS off Gumtree (basically British Craigslist) for relatively cheap. When I turn it on the little light is blue for a second and then turns off. The people I brought it from said it just needs to be charged, but I thought if a ds needs to be charged the little light is amber? Anyway, I don't want to spend even more money on a charger if it's broken so just wanting to know before hand. Also if it is the black screen of death can anyone point me to any repair guides.
