Hey everyone!

Happy New Year! I wanted to give a quick status of the subreddit.

First, in 2018, we went from less than 5k subscribers to 18k, and now we've passed 19k! That's a huge growth! That growth means two major things for moderations- more comments to manage, and more new users who (we can assume) don't know the rules - AKA more rule-breaking posts and comments.

I was one of two active mods until our friend u/Shadowvendetta stepped down - then it was just me (The other mods listed are inactive and I'm working with reddit to get them off to reduce confusion). I was checking this subreddit several times a day and reading every comment at that time. This isn't a healthy thing, so I slowed that down in the last two weeks. - I have only received two DMs related to this subreddit ever - please message me with concerns or complaints - I can't fix what I don't know.

In slowing down, I have been checking the mod log instead of reading every single comment. After taking the last two days off, I did some catch up work, including reading through comments on controversial posts. I read a comment that said "have the mods abandoned us?" - however, nobody reported the post they were referring to!

If you see something you don't like, report it so it gets to our attention - don't assume someone else has done it. Most rule breaking comments have either 0 or 1 report, we rarely see multiple reports. If you love this subreddit as we do, please report posts that are rule-breaking or questionable - we can make a determination whether it really should go. We have around 3 reports and 5 removed posts/comments a day - things will slip through if we don't work together.

With all that being said, I have added u/chicken_fear and u/Nifferton as mods, Nifferton being more focused on the chat side. Please welcome them as they do their best to keep the subreddit a welcoming place.

On that final topic, thank you to all for making this my favorite subreddit on reddit. There's a great mix of people, the people here and friendly and helpful, and we're all excited about a lesser-known experience. We promote harm reduction and responsible drug use - that's awesome and you should feel special for being part of an awesome community!
