Tl;dr OSRS has slowly become RS3 with bad graphics and we can't do anything about it. It should have remained with the original spirit instead if evolving into something new and different.
Flashy new NPC and city models amd art styles, modern MMO reputation grinding, complex boss and raid mechanics, new gear and items that don't capture the low medieval spirit, OSRS no longer represents 2007 Runescape, it's just an EoC-less RS3 remake with worse graphics heading in a direction that is evolving it into something unrecognizable.
The vision has been skewed and lost to the point that the entirety of Great Kourend was purpose built so that you grind rep rather than existing for its own sake to create a living set of cities independent of you which you enter to visit and explore rather than just being a backdrop for a rep farming gaming mechanic. Varrock existed because it just existed all along. Great Kourend was presented and is just a backdrop got another faction grinding set of minigames like Menaphos is in RS3. OSRS is already significantly following the unfortunate path that RS3 has taken. What happened and how did we allow this?
I can no longer go back to a 2007 Runescape where rune and dragon armor were great, Barrows gear was supreme, and everything felt like a low medieval fantasy game with magic.
Now it feels like a high fantasy world that has completely lost that spirit that I enjoyed. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I can't be the only one who noticed this or is saddened by it, can I? It's now RS3 with old school graphics.
