Why the fuck can I do regular gauntlet with less than 10 food but I cant do corrupted gauntlet at all?

This is making literally no sense to me. I can clear base gauntlet as many times as I want in a row but I just cannot do corrupted gauntlet
Even on runs with full T2 armor and 2 T3 weapons, full food, nope. Half health at best.
Regular gauntlet at T1 armor and two T2 weapons? No problem! maybe 15 food used.
Im seeing literally no reason for this gigantic difficulty spike. Rapid floor tiles, some slightly increased stats and an extra tornado should not be preventing me from doing it all. Wtf is going on?
