"Rares" have been discussed to come in the game and never be rare, but honestly what "fun" is that? I'd rather be able to quit the game(you never quit) and come back in 10 years(I over exaggerate) and show off my 10 phat set collection because there "rare" and have them be worth something than have them literally take up space in my bank account. Seriously some partyhats are worth less than 2k. I actually could spend 1 hour at vorkath or 1 hour following a J-mod dropping them and I'd make the same gp/hr (maybe less picking them up) so I propose a change.
Rares should be given out either one last time this year or after the 10th year of Old School Runescape.
Why should this be done now? Deaths coffer allows some items (such as the Santa hat: 10500gp) to be deposited into it. Im not sure how much gp gets removed daily from deaths coffer, but at current prices a million santa hats costs 10.5b and Im not sure there are even a few million in game. The duel arena tax was billions on the first day I'd imagine we have spent a fair amount on deaths so far to put a chunk in sinking all of one rare. After all the "junk" items get thrown away were gonna need more to fuel the fire.
Basically people can hoard santa hats/possibly other rares and buy them until they are 10k each and then put them in deaths coffer and slowly they could rise in price as people buy them.
As some of you might know, the disk of returning(DOR) was not released as a holiday item for a while and it began to rise in price. Then Jagex added DOR to Diango's shop for 21,000, and since then the price has dropped. What I am proposing is very similar: perhaps call it a "price cap".
Deaths coffer sees tons of items, but where do they go? Death has them of course(who is gonna throw away this perfectly good tbow?) and hes willing to sell them to you, well not the tbow, but he will sell you "rares"(holiday items only) for a set price of (1m?) each still allowing new ironmen to get them. Maybe also they are discontinued to the point where they can only be purchased from death if there are any in stock. If none of the rare are in stock then nobody(including ironmen) could buy them, but I doubt we will ever get here. However, if they ever got more expensive than death was selling them for, then just for rares the Grand exchange could be unlocked for ironmen to allow them to buy rares(but not sell so they cant make profit on the iron account). (New series: Partyhat set on my G.E. locked UIM)
With the current system we have there is the potental for someone(or a group) to buy out nearly all santa hats for probably around 100b-500b and manipulate the g.e. price to 500k each(or more) then sell them for 450k each to people as "deaths coffer money" (this one item at 500k x1million santas would bypass 500billion deaths coffer money) Currently it isn't a problem, but it could turn into one.
If players are so obsessed with keeping "rares" not rare, then please just add them all to diango's shop for 2k each so I can free up some bank space.
Pros: "Rares" become "rare" again. Fashionscape that doesnt make you look poor. Bots at the g.e. sometimes wear rares so if they cost more gold farmers lose a little more. Ironmen can still get rares.
Cons: Sparc mac will be kinda rich again. No yellow text.
