How many of us try and act like our choice in this lifestyle is superior to others? How many people try to be in this lifestyle because it fits our ego? How many of us expect and want respect for our choice of lifestyle yet refuse to offer it to others who have made choices that best fit them? They've chosen to stay single, they've chosen not to have traditional gender roles, they've chosen to live a life of bars and clubs.
I have a coworker who herself chose a vastly different life then my wife and I. She chosen to stay single (mostly), she's chosen to enjoy alcohol more frequently, she's chosen to not have children. These are choices she's made, yet through conversations we have become friends and have a mutual respect for each other. She's become friends with my wife over the years, even though my wife stays at home and raises our children and she lives the corporate life like me. Yet they've become friends due to a mutual respect. Sometimes my coworker comes over for dinner and acts like an amazing "Aunt" towards the kids. Other times we go out to a bar with her and enjoy her company in that environment and make sure she get home safe after getting drunk.
This lifestyle choice we have all made to keep with traditional gender roles, and live as close to the ideal 1950s traditional lifestyle is our choice. One we all feels best fits us, but we are not in any position to be critical of how others have chosen to live their life. We have to respect them if we want to also be respected, it's a two way street.
