There’s a plethora of content out there, particularly on YouTube, on tennis mechanics. A common thing I’ve heard from interviews with creators on YouTube is that they run into people who have consumed so much knowledge — almost too much.
One area that comes to mind is swinging mechanics. Recently, I played with a much older man (I’m in my 40’s and he must’ve been in his 60’s). We hit for the first time and this new guy starts telling me I need to do more on my unit turn. Not a big deal but I dislike getting coached from other people unless I feel like they’re actually superior players and I know who they are.
But the thing that got me was that this guy had no unit turn at all. Granted he was an older man.
Having some back to the game that I played in high school, I do find myself much more sore and tired. In particular, tight in the lower back, and the arches on my feet — I had none of these issues when I was younger. I tend to be a big server and like to swing out on my forehands. I also like chasing the ball and being quick on my feet
Have you adjusted your mechanics or how you play with age?
