I know this isn't Wimbledon, but here's what happened. Womens doubles. Me and my partner are visiting team. Sprinkler in the back of the court is broken and running, creating a huge puddle. None of us knew it was there at first. Ball #1 gets drenched. We keep playing with remaining 2 balls. Eventually now my serve. Serve is wide, opponent attempts to hit ball, but goes long and into puddle. Now ball #2 is drenched. I say, this can't keep happening. Opponent (who is on home team) offers to open up a 2nd can. We think about our options, then use a court brush to cover water and puddle. I'm satisfied with this solution. One brush is blocking puddle, we get back in our places. I ask for a 1st serve. They say no. I ask again. They say no and do not budge. They say I could have served instead of talking about the puddle between my two serves. They did not know the service interruption rule. They call tennis pro who moves us to another court. I look up rule on USTA and show them. On a fresh court, they give me 2 serves and we lose 1-6, 1-6. They were a better team, but it's also difficult to play when you're angry. Was I right or should I just have accepted their "no"?
