Why is 100 Gecs considered hyperpop?

I'll admit I'm not super well versed on hyperpop, but I always thought it was all about super clean production, which is kinda the opposite of what 100 Gecs is going for. After finding out about them and how they're regarded as one of the prime examples of the genre, I initially thought I was just wrong and looked up some other hyperpop acts that keep coming up in the comments, like Dorian Electra and Charli XCX, but they sound nothing like 100 Gecs to me. I feel like 100 Gecs is to hyperpop what punk was to hair metal.
