I’ve been following the Slaton sisters since, gosh, I don’t even know anymore. Probably since they first started youtube. I was on a gossip forum where they got their first big snark group going after their... harrowing videos started blowing up, and for years and years Tammy was the one everyone sympathized with. Between the two of them from their social medias and videos, Amy always seemed like the HBIC and Tammy the bullied one. Amy had a habit of treating Tammy quite harshly in their videos not saying Tammy didn’t as well off camera, of course.

I even was mutuals with Tammy’s private Instagram for a very long time before she deleted it after the show started, and SO many of her stories and posts were talking about how Amy belittled her and was cruel to her, saying she was the one who would get out of there one day and Tammy would be all alone and she wouldn’t take Tammy with her, etc. One particularly stressful day Tammy posted a series of stories talking about how Amy would smack her on her back and would make fun of her for being catfishes into sending a troll nudes, saying she was dumb for ever thinking a man would like someone like her and that her misfortune was “hilarious”. She did a lot of question/AMAs on Instagram stories. Like almost every single day. Take it with a grain of salt, of course, but it sort of makes sense with her crab-bucketing behavior now with Amy’s weight loss that she’s afraid of being left behind.

The forum I was on had such a sympathetic view of Tammy that they sent her gift after gift after gift to their P.O. Box, and some even got letters back. One user noticed that a makeup set they had sent Tammy specifically was being used by Amy in one of her old makeup videos. Allegedly, when they’d asked Tammy on her private Instagram if she had given it to Amy, Tammy said she had never gotten that package. There was a rally around Tammy all the time pre-TLC, even rooting for her when she was in the nursing home for ages, and seeing Amy as the controlling sister.

I’ve finally gotten round to watching the first 1 1/2 seasons of 1000lb Sisters and I am so interested to see how that dynamic and perception has been flipped on its head! Even on that forum it seems to have gone from #FreeTammy to “screw both of them”. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I was ever a “fan” of the Slatons — I was just a young drama loving snarker who liked to read trashy gossip forums — but I definitely feel like I had a sympathetic view of Tammy when they were just doing YouTube and livestreams. After the show I don’t feel like my perception flipped the other way, I feel like I just strongly dislike BOTH of them now. What with the scam they did and the way they have treated each other and their pets etc in the past before the show even started... I don’t have love for either of them. I think both have their issues and both deeply need therapy and help... more so than they are getting now. But I just thought as an OG follower how interesting it is that the table turned so sharply. I hate that I’ve invested so many years into the Slatons, long enough to remember when Tammy was the hero and Amy the villain... lol
