So a little background, I’m in my 30’s but have worked for myself since leaving Uni. I have never worked in a corporate environment but I was offered an employment opportunity recently which was too good to turn down, so I have closed my company and I start this new full-time position shortly. In all my induction meetings to date with them, they have been great and really friendly, but feel they have found it comical at times with some of the questions I ask them, due to me not knowing anything about working under a full-time contract, some of the things I’ve mentioned to them i’ve come across a little naive about the corporate working world - I’m nervous to ask them a few more questions so I’m asking here if any of you can help me?
I have 21 days holiday per year. Does that mean I can only have 21 working days off per year? Or can I take more than 21days, just anything over 21 days is unpaid and at management discretion?
how do I handle making dental appointments or doctors appointments as they only work Mon-fri? Especially doctors appointments where there’s minimal notice.
I do not drive (learning soon), I rely on trains but busses by me are very unreliable. There’s often train strikes at the moment - what is the protocol if trains are cancelled and I can’t get to work?
I feel very embarrassed that I do not know more about full-time employment being the age I am.
