A friend of mine is 17 and using dating apps such as tinder, hinge and bumble. She’s matching with my male friends that are 20 and think she is 19 (as she is listed). I want to talk to her about it but I don’t know how to approach the topic. She says she is empowered enough to make the decision to be on the apps and mature enough for her age not to matter. But it’s putting my male friends in a difficult position. I want to support and empower her as a woman but I also don’t want my male friends to be put in a difficult position. While in the UK (where we are) 16 is the age of consent, it’s still weird and my male friends say it makes them uncomfortable to know that they matched with an underage girl without knowing. Obviously these apps are unfortunately full of underage people, and it is not my responsibility, but I want to protect her from older men and also protect my friends and other men from being cat-fished into a legal grey area. How do I approach this? Do I approach this? Now I know about it, I can’t stop thinking about it. She’s using them constantly, even as I write this and I don’t know what to do.
