George Will and Tony LaRussa
Post Body

I read the book ā€œMen at Workā€ by George Will. He wrote a 100 page essay on LaRussaā€™s managerial style and how he works with coaches. He talked about his daily meetings with his coaches and discuss each individual player on the opposing team.

How? Sabermectrics and the coachesā€™ personal views. He hired (besides Dave Duncan) younger coaches and decided lineups that way. Not just a solo decision by him.

Coaches are closer to players at each position, and I think that he would have a more hands-off approach. He wouldnā€™t care about cockiness, I mean, he had to deal with Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire with the bash brothers crap. He might be quite old, and a little bit cranky, but different managerial styles show new things to players today.

I say go for it.
