I have wide feet-- how tight should my weightlifting shoes fit?

Since I have wide feet I decided to go with Do-Win shoes. They make wider shoes, and people with "normal" feet usually have to go down at least half a size. My normal shoes are almost always 9-wide, so I ordered two pair of Do-Win shoes--one size 9 and the other 9.5.

The 9s fit very snug with less than a centimeter of space in between the longest toe and the front of the shoe. There's no room for me to move my toes around and there's pressure on the last digit of my foot (the pinky toe). My toes aren't cramped on top of each other (as with other narrow shoes I've tried), but they are smushed against each other to where I can't move them. When I tighten the straps on them there isn't any discomfort or pressure coming from the straps themselves.

The 9.5s fit more comfortably, but I'm wondering if they're too loose. The heel doesn't slip when move around in them, but there is over a centimeter gap in the front, so definitely have room in the toe-box to move my toes around. When I tighten down the straps I feel pressure on there to the point of very mild discomfort. If a little discomfort there is normal, that's fine but since I've never used weightlifting shoes before I'm not sure if that's the case. That is, I'm not sure if the straps are uncomfortable with the 9.5s because they're otherwise too loose without the straps.

I've heard that too tight is better than too loose because the shoes will break in, but I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that also has wide feet that has had a similar experience. What are your thoughts?
