Is it just me or has the Fairlife/Fair Oaks footage resulted in what I call the Yulin Syndrome. Carnists and vegetarians finally see something that opens their eyes, if only for a short time, to the horrors of animal agriculture that normally get shielded from us, and then proceed to go about their way without changing anything they do, except in this case where they stop buying their milk from a certain supplier. I've had friend come to me, the only vegan they personally know, about how sickening it was to watch it, how they need to "cut back" on dairy and will never buy from Fairlife again. I sympathize with them, but a big part of me just can't get over the hypocrisy. They still eat dairy. Still eating meat. Still wearing leather. I've explained that what they saw, while horrible, is not at all uncommon, and is probably happening as we speak on some farm in America and the world. I've tried to explain that the feeling they have when they watch those things is the same feeling a lot of vegans have on a daily basis, which is why most of us changed what we did. I just wish that people could match their actions to their words.
