I've been vegetarian for about 5 years now and vegan for a little over a year and a half. I've noticed that since I went vegan I notice just how much of everyday life is tied up in animal slaughter and suffering. The food, clothes, makeup, household products, etc. Sometimes I feel worn down from constantly being hit with it and trying to avoid it. But I know it's worth it.
A friend of mine who went vegetarian 6 months ago with my help recently called me out on it. She said that I see negativity everywhere and seem very pessimistic. I told her I think its just a natural occurrence when you take off the blinders and really see what's in front of your eyes. It doesn't help that we work in a restaurant. I usually get at least one snarky comment a day either from coworkers or guests, which I think also leads to a rather cloudy look at things.
I try to stay positive, but I really do find it difficult seeing what I see. I certainly don't go around with my head down, but at the same time I see how carefree and blithely other people go through their day. It's almost like I can't stop thinking, while everyone else has. I don't know any other vegans, so I'm hoping you guys can share your thoughts.
