I am genuinely asking out of curiosity, in my experience backpacking across south east asia. I noticed some unfriendly behaviour amongst some of the white backpackers against east asians like myself. I found this a little odd considering these white backpackers come to Asia for their travels but are behaving in a sort of way that seems unfriendly or cold towards backpackers of Asian descent.
To cite an example, I was with some friends years ago on a snorkelling/cliff climbing trip and the majority of the passengers were white. They also fall into the backpackers type of traveller. I tried to strike up conversations but was met with polite responses but not a willingness to engage further in conversation, however, they were more than happy to engage with other white passengers. I have seen repeated experiences for this sort of behaviour through my travels. I often wonder if its because most east asian travellers come across as reserved or to put it bluntly unadventurous, an oft mentioned cliche troupe therefore the quality of the conversation/engagement might seem less exciting. (LOL i hope i am not projecting some idea)
FYI I am a fairly alternative looking "woo woo" western minded east asian if that helps. I reckon I'm pretty easy going too. I would love to hear your thoughts!
Edit: Just to add, not all of my experiences are bad it's just that 3 out of 5 times its kinda meh.
