we need to normalize disliking idols and groups.
i find its normal among western artists to be disliked. think about it like this: i donāt like ariana grande. i like some of her songs but i donāt see any appeal in her and i just donāt really like her vibe. normally this would be a fairly normal statement, because literally everybody i know in real life dislikes someone. itās human nature. you cannot like every single person in the world.
why is it an issue if i say i dislike an idol? iāve been slandered on twitter for saying i donāt like a specific soloist for not typically strong reasons. why? i seriously donāt get it.
donāt get me wrong, stan whoever you want. thereās a difference between āi dislike an idolā and āfuck everyone that likes this idol because i hate themā. i just donāt understand why disliking idols (AND not being too public about it bc youāre not an asshole) is such a taboo.
edit: iād just like to clarify again that i do not condone hating or bullying any idols. this isnāt my point. if someone HATES and slanders an idol for no reason, thatās completely different from simply disliking someone for whatever reason. again, you cannot expect me or anyone to like every single person in the industry. sometimes you just dislike someone because you simply donāt match and thatās okay.
edit 2: omg thank you so much for the award !!! thatās my first award :) iām so glad that this sparked so much conversation because honestly i didnāt expect it at all. thanks again.
I get what you mean, although I think being excessively rude about not liking an idol (or a person in general)for irrational reasons is something that will never sit right with me, even if its one's right to (& even if it's not done publicly). E.g. I have a friend who HATES Kai & EXO and consistently makes snarky comments about them whenever I'm watching an MV of theirs or they are mentioned. I'm not even an EXO fan (I casually follow them like I do a lot of groups), but I do not understand what makes someone dislike someone so much for no real reason. Maybe it speaks to one's personality and how they approach other human beings ā I'm also someone who doesn't generally hate people that I know IRL, even if they are kinda shitty. I'll more so treat them indifferently, or prefer not to associate with them.
Also, saying someone's "vibes" are weird has never made much sense to me lmao, unless those vibes are associated with a particular thing they've done consistently (e.g. the way they treat the people around them) or a particular personality trait (e.g. not liking people who are too loud).
