I always seen fandoms trending hashtags on Twitter when an idol does something problematic to try to get them to apologize for what they did. It's sometimes works but not all the time.
Companies normally make idols apologize for thing can could affect a groups Korean fanbase. A big example is when it comes to dating scandals. Most international fans couldn't give less of a fuck when an idol dates, but Korean fans do care. Because of that we get apologies or statements denying the accusations. But when it comes to things like cultural appropriation, a thing international fans care about, we almost never get apologies for that because Korean fans don't care.
One more example would be NCT Dream's Jaemin with his dating scandal, correct me if I'm wrong but SM was quick to release a statement denying that. But when stans were trending dream apologize on Twitter we got radio silence on the issue because only international fans seemed to care.
At the end of the day Korean fans are idols/companies main money source. Korean fans have fansigns, concerts, albums, lightsticks, and can go buy things from the actual company buildings themselves.
You could argue that international fans do that same thing but we get a lot of those things from websites that more than likely don't give 100% of the money they make back to the company in question.
There is also the point that kpop would be perfectly fine and thriving if they didn't have international fans. The only thing that would suffer would be idols having overseas schedules. And companies know this. Some of y'all really don't realize that kpop as an industry has survived without international attention before and they will continue to do that once the west stops giving a shit about kpop.
In my eyes there would be no reason for companies to focus or care about international fans when all we do is give companies extra money to do whatever they want with.
So do American artists. Should they learn every other language too?

A lot of Western artists have HUGE fanbases abroad, e.g. Troye Sivan's number one city where he's most listened to is Jakarta, Indonesia. I don't see Western artists being forced to necessarily target those countries.
