Wanted to share my experience with giving notice for marriage and how the Home Office handled it. I'm (24m) an Australian here on a T5 YMS, engaged to a British citizen (24f).
We gave our notice of marriage at our county registry office on 20th May 2021, and I received the very scary pamphlet from the home office saying that within 28 days they would give us notice in writing as to whether or not they would be investigating us as a potential "sham marriage" and therefore extend our notice period.
30 days pass without any word from the Home Office, and I'm shitting myself because I'm concerned they got my address wrong or something and I've missed a letter.
First I call the registry office who have had no communication, and then I email the Home Office's Marriage Referrals Team using the email address on the pamphlet.
They respond a day later, saying that actually they approved our marriage on the 24th May - FOUR DAYS after I gave notice. Apparently they were unable to issue letters due to the pandemic...
So, if you have waited your 28 days and you haven't heard anything, best to send them an email. It looks like they aren't sending letters at the moment. Keen to hear if this is a common thing in others experience.
