Can I use a pick?

Post Body

I am a beginner player and picked up a Luna Baritone Ukulele from my local music store. I'm in love with it.

However, after about 30 minutes of playing strumming becomes painful for me. I'm a big guy and I have joint issues. Would it be okay for me to use a pick?

I have two steel strings and two nylon strings currently. I was thinking either a felt pick or a very lightweight plastic pick.

What do you all think?

I want to follow how these instruments are traditionally played, but I don't want to suffer for it.
