Hello everyone! I hope your winter quarter is going well. Just a quick announcement that the housing application for 2024-2025 is now open. I’m here to answer a few questions you may have about the housing process. If you have any other questions and comments please feel free to ask and I’ll try to answer them. Really hope this helps!
Does your housing type & ranking matter? Yes and No. Housing type and ranking are only relevant if you do not select a room when housing opens (which majority of people do).
What is an RSU group? An RSU group is the group of people you plan to dorm with and/or be in the same building as.
How many can be in an RSU group? A total of 8 people can be in your RSU group. Which includes yourself and 7 other people.
Does everyone in your group have to live in the same dorm? No! You don’t have to be in the same room you all just have to be in the same building.
Can you have guys and girls in the same RSU group? Yes and No! If your whole group choses gender inclusive housing then yes you will be able to.
Why does having an RSU group matter? CHOOSING HOUSING! Those in an RSU group will get to pick their rooms days before those not in an RSU group
Who actually gets to chose housing when the time comes? Whoever made the housing group will be the one who chooses the room.
How will times work? Besides those with priority housing most of the housing times is a lottery (random)
What if a group member has an earlier time then the leader? That’s great! Actually how it works is everyone in the group will have a random time. Whoever has the earliest time will be your group time when room picking opens.
What happens if you do not get the housing you want? You can submit a CAR change of assignment request in hope of the possibility of changing rooms. When the application opens.
What are some important dates to know?
February 13: When applications are due
February 20-23: Group RSU
February 26: Individual RSU
March 4-6: Open RSU
Extra Tips - Don't be alone; find an RSU group. It just takes one other person, and you don't even have to be in the same room.
Do your research on the buildings you wish to reside in, as they may not have the room type you want.
Choose a trustworthy group leader to make informed decisions on where to live. Because they will be choosing housing whether your desired room is filled or not.
Be open to adapting. Have backups and don't become emotionally tied to a single building or room because spaces fill up quickly.
If you choose gender inclusive housing, this implies that if someone moves into your room, the same rules will apply. Vise versa if you request to change rooms as well.
Go to r/uclahousing to post and find housemates for next year.
Lastly BE REALISTIC. You are not getting a single pod let alone your whole group 💀
