Therapy and free will

I'm sure psychotherapists commonly experience the same thing as I: I really want those who work with me to glean the most self-knowledge, self-acceptance, self-challenge and self-growth as possible, through the process we undertake together, but I've had to accept that some people have no willingness to rethink some of their categories, and so they remain stuck in some limiting thought patterns.
I'm sure parents and teachers often think the same about their children.
