I can’t remember a time I didn’t know and love the Beatles! I became obsessed with Led Zeppelin as a kid. I became aware of the Red Hot Chili Peppers when Mothers Milk was issued and I memorized every word of Blood Sugar Sex Magic! I was just discovering punk rock and my local hardcore scene when Nirvana released Nevermind. The lyrics of bands like Fugazi, Quicksand, Into Another and Downset and Tribe Called Quest informed my world view and have forever been burned into my mind. I saw Weezer in 1994. I was also a band geek and a symphony nerd. I thought I was cool because I was also in the jazz band and played for the musicals and had a dorky ska band! I played trombone 🤓 In college I loved the band Cursive! Their album Doméstica and Angry Organ are such masterpieces! I’ve always been a huge fan of Brit pop from Bauhaus, The Smiths, Radiohead, to Chvrches. Im going to see Elvis Costello in August! Now days I’ll still go see a show when it’s something loud at a bar. Saw Sunn O recently and it was the loudest, literally body shaking experience ever. The last show I went to was Turnstile when they recently came through. I was more interested in their opener Ceremony. I’m fascinated by forms and patterns, the magic of a riff and the ability it has to communicate to my soul. It is one of the most sublime things to me.
