Iāve been finding it hard to find a therapist with understanding or expertise with helping clients with more complex disorders like Schizoaffective. Iām mostly going to help with depression and anxiety but the other symptoms are something that canāt be discounted or ignored when it comes to my mental health but thatās the problem, the therapists Iāve seen just donāt seem to get that. Most therapists seem to not have much experience with clients with more severe mental conditions and it shows. In my experience, most just ignore the more intense symptoms or most of the diagnosis and treat me like an average client with mild to moderate depression. I mean, I donāt want the therapist to treat me like a freak but treating me like I donāt need a different approach for my treatment isnāt great either. Alternatively, Iāve had therapists that just see my diagnosis and seem to ānopeā out. An example is almost whenever I brought up an issue I was having that had little to nothing to do with my diagnosis, it was hard-waved away and told to just āadjust your medsā. Felt like a cheap way for therapists to get me out of the office asap. Some too many seem outright ignorant, I often have to explain what my diagnosis is and what symptoms are common. I like educating donāt get me wrong but i donāt like educating mental health professionals about it. The professionals I see in the local mental health clinic seem to toss me around like a hot potato until someone tells me thereās no available therapists or long waiting lists (which is odd because I know people that go there for therapy and had no such waiting lists but thatās a different story). Private or public, Iām having a bad time finding an understating therapist. Has anybody find a knowledgeable therapist or have similar issues trying to find one?
