TIFU by moisturizing my hands before applying makeup.

This story goes back to 2020. I hadn't thought of sharing it until now..

One January morning, I was about to get ready for the day and get out of the house. I followed my usual wake up & make up routine. After moisturizing my face, I also put some on my hands.I applied my makeup as usual. My lashes and mascara are last. I grabbed the eyelash curler and did one eye. Perfect. On to the next eye.

And then, it happened.

Some gremlin twitch took hold of my arm. As I curled my lashes, I felt my hand twitch and my fingers slipped in the grip, all while holding the lashes perfectly clamped in place.

Rip.

I took about 40 lashes clean off my eyelid. I stared in horror at the collection of messy little lashes still clamped in place in my eyelash curler. Pure fucking HORROR from me.

I look in the mirror closely and my eye is okay, my eyelid is okay, but my lashes.... nearly barren. 80% of my eyelid was now bare, every lash in that section had been ripped out by the root. My eyelid was starting to swell a little because I brutally yanked out 40 hair follicles, root and all.

Here's a gallery of the aftermath. No blood but traumatic nonetheless.(They grew back full in about a month. Don't cry for me, I cried enough.)

TL;DR: My hands were slippery and I twitched while using an eyelash curler. I ripped out most of my lashes, root and all.

As a gay man who has been experimenting with low-key makeup designs for the last year... thanks for giving me a new fear. LOL
