Am I wrong about what therapy is?

Post Body

I've been going to therapy off and on for several years and I never feel like I'm really getting much out of it I feel like we always just talk about surface shallow things like me looking for a new job, Me working on my executive dysfunction or my decisions about college. Like I swear every single time it has something to do with one of those things and very rarely do we actually get into deeper more personal issues. Like my recently diagnosed autism, my estrangement fron my family, traumas i experienced growing up etc and how that affects me as an adult. Am I supposed to be the one to bring those things up? I would really prefer my therapist was the one too address it. Or is this just a stereotype of what therapy is from TV?
