Can a new SSD really improve an old laptop?

Just saw a man on tiktok claiming that instead of throwing away older laptops or selling them off, you should replace the hard drive with SSD since it’s very cheap and it’ll make your laptop much faster and efficient.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad core i7 and i’m wondering is it a nice hack to do or no?
