I've been to China before and I've always managed to skirt the GFW via a personal proxy set up in Canada or a commercial VPN option (the last time I was here was in 2009).
I'm currently back in China and I notice that while I'm on a 10/5 Mbps connection, access to any site through my VPN works intermittently for a few minutes and then my speed falls to < 56k. I can't even watch Youtube videos anymore because of the slow speeds. At first I thought it was due to the GFW detecting that I was on VPN via DPI however using VyprVPN's Chameleon protocol yielded the same results.
I'm wondering if it's just me or if China has found a way to defeat conventional methods of bypass available to the general public.
