Can someone please explain the differences in shields you pick up?

Take the mind’s eye shield. It says it’s designed to “increase blind spots without sacrificing defense” or the Zoe’s shield which says it can “redirect attacks as a rock redirects rushing water.” Does this translate to gameplay at all? I’ve always been confused by it other than the obvious zonaite ones
