Yesterday started like any other Monday. Mangler was off since he "worked from home" over the weekend, so, he was enjoying the beautiful weather and many adult beverages, and CIO was also off. Pity. Phones ringing off the hook, our protagonist has been engaged in yet another argument with Mangler about ordering "top of the line thin clients" for our new office that's opening next year, but refused to specify what OS is going to be embedded. I make this an issue since MSFT is killing support for W7 embedded at some point this year and, thus, we will be violating HIPAA (even moreso than we do already.) The day dragged into the early afternoon. No time for lunch. Lunch is for humans; our protagonist is a cyborg. No food needed. Around 1PM, a stressed out YankeeNinja sees his cell phone ringing. He answers and is enthused, but nervous to hear a recruiter he has been working with on the other end. They exchange pleasantries and she asks him how his search is going. He updates her on his progress.
Recruiter: "OK, so, we got feedback from %NewPotentialEmployer% and they said it's between you and 1 other candidate."
Me: "Oh...Ok. So, where do we stand?"
Recruiter: "Well, that's why I wanted to know where you stood with %AnotherPotentialEmployer%"
Me: "Well, their recruiter has been pretty open and told me to let him know if there's any movement with any of the companies I've been interviewing with."
Recruiter: "Well, like I said, it's between you and another candidate, but they REALLY liked you."
Me: "That's great! So, is there an offer incoming, or something like that?"
Silence
Recruiter: "Well, they want to make you an offer."
Me: "Wait, what? Really?"
Recruiter: "Yes! %OfferTerms%"
Me: "OK, I'm going to call %OtherPotentialEmployer% and see where I stand."
I make the call and the recruiter tells me that I'm in a "Holding pattern" and "They have 2 candidates they really like and will probably be choosing one of them before the end of the week, but you're still in consideration." I take my cue and politely let him know I am withdrawing myself from consideration and call Recruiter back
Recruiter: "Oh Hi, YankeeNinja! So, what was the outcome?"
Me: "They had 2 other candidates they were considering, but I decided to withdraw myself from consideration and take this offer."
Recruiter: "That's fantastic! Ok, so, I'm going to call %NewBoss% and let him know you've accepted and I'll send you over the paperwork. Congratulations!
More pleasantries are exchanged and the call ends. Our hero immediately calls his current recruiter and lets him know that his last day will be April 29. They let him know they will handle giving Mangler and CIO the news. The weight of the world comes off our hero's shoulders as he realizes the nightmare has come to an end, and on April 29, 2016, he will be free and be working for a company heavily invested in technology with a startup vibe, despite growing at a blistering pace over the last year or 2. He will be the sole support staff for an office of 200 people and will get perks that have only been told of in myths and legends. The nightmare has ended and the best part is, Mangler and CIO still have no idea.
FIN
Updates to be added as relevant. IE: Mangler and CIO find out.
UPDATE #1: Mangler and CIO are both aware as of yesterday, apparently. Email was received by CIO from agency letting them know I was resigning. CIO was acting like nothing happened and was talking to me in the normal tone. According to inside sources, Mangler was angry then didn't care. He was probably angry because he may actually not be able to take every Monday off to get loaded. Sucks to be him. In any event, paperwork is signed, farewell emails have been sent to the few that deserve it, and cruise control is set to 55mph. I will, of course, post a new chapter if anymore special snowflakes present themselves. Thank you to everyone for your well-wishes and congratulations. To those still suffering, APPLY TO EVERYTHING YOU CAN and don't be afraid to use an agency to get your foot in the door. Keep trying and don't give up.
TL;DR: Been shitted on for years and finally got my revenge by giving notice while the Manager and CIO were out getting hammered.
