The Cubicle Chronicles - Tales From a Miserable Desktop Tech - Chapter 4 - That's Not Your Name!
Post Body

Chapter 3

Howdy folks. This one was too good not to share.

Background: I do desktop support for medical centers for a labor union. We have a helpdesk extension users can call for assistance. When a tech answers from the queue, our phone system displays the name of the person that answered the call.

The Scene: I just got up and walked over to a co-worker's desk that's 1 row of cubicle's away. One of the doctors I support happened to be standing there talking to my co-worker. This is what unfolded.

Me: "Hi, Doc."

Doctor: "Oh, Hi, (wrong name.)"

Me: "It's, Yankeeninja, not (wrong name.)"

Doctor: "No, it's (wrong name.)"

Me: "No, actually, it isn't. It's YankeeNinja."

Doctor: "But, when I call the helpdesk and talk to you, it says (wrong name.)"

Me: "Actually, the way our phone system is set up, once someone on the helpdesk answers the phone, it displays the name of the person you're speaking to. So, you just so happened to get (wrong name.)"

Doctor: "Oh, so, your name isn't (Wrong name?) I'm so confused. You should fix the phones."

Me: "There's nothing wrong with the phones. It's working exactly how it's supposed to. You've been talking to (Wrong name) and not me. If you were talking to me, you would see my name on the display, which is YankeeNinja.

Doctor: "I'm so confused, (Wrong Name.)

Me: "Have a good day, Dr. Y."

Doctor: "My name isn't Dr. Y, it's Dr. X."

Me: "And my name is YankeeNinja, not (Wrong Name.)
