Finding a needle in a stack of needles
Post Body

When I arrived at work today my second shift guy passed a ticket to me for a machine that is repeatedly prompting for a bitlocker recovery key pretty much daily. He asked me to take a look at it and told me that "They are having an area setup where people can watch movies while waiting to be discharged" and that the machine in question would be in this area. This was in our oncology department where patients recieve chemo, so lots of mobile workstations, lots of normal workstations.

So I set off and start looking around. I was told to look for "Snacks and things" and that the machine would be nearby. I found the snacks but the machine name he gave me was nowhere to be found. I spent about 10 minutes walking around looking at the stickers on machines trying to find the culprit. I have to admit, I was reminded of this as I was hunting for this machine. Finally I thought to myself, if I know the hostname and know it's powered on and we leave the onboard speakers enabled then maybe I can find it that way. So I find an empty workstation and RDP to the machine I was looking for, after telling mstsc to leave sounds on the remote workstation, and loaded up this video

5 minutes later I found the machine, fixed bitlocker and was on my way.
