So I sent Jeff a hardware list, outline of what I wanted to do and when I'd expect to be done after I began work. I get an email from Tom an hour later saying that Jeff asked him to look over the request and that he wouldn't approve it unless I agreed that a DC in an office of 4 people was overkill. Screw it, he knows why I wanted it but if he wants to be right I don't mind being wrong if I can get the job done

Yes, a domain controller for 4 people IS overkill. But it also serves as part of our disaster recovery if something happens to one of our main sites.
I go back to looking for Win server licenses with the appropriate CALs when my email dinged

I approve
I see Jeff pop his head into my office as I'm eating lunch
Jeff: Hey, I'll put the order in today. The gear should be here by weeks end
Me: Sounds good
Jeff: What are you doing for the rest of the day?
Me: Going back and setting up shelving in the IT closet, replacing the door knob with a new one and helping Tom with wiring, planning wireless access and switch location.
Jeff: Ok, good.
I finish my tacos from Pancheros and head over. Tom was busy fishing CAT-6 through the ceiling tiles. I see the ethernet and phone plate was hanging out of the wall with 2 sets of wire going to it in each office and a hole cut into the ceiling in the closet.
Me: So where are you putting the AP?
Tom: Havent decided
Me: Can I make a suggestion?
Tom: Sure
Me: I'd say putting it in the back here by the IT closet
Tom: Why?
Me: It's far enough from the front that people can't sit and camp out in their car and keep trying to get into our network
Tom: it's WPA not WEP, they're not ever going to be able to get in
Me: Never say never.
I head in the back and take off the existing door knob and replace it with a new one. I test all keys then hand one of the keys to Tom and let him know I'll be back. I run to Walmart and get 2 more keys made then head back and test them all out. I then screw brackets to each side for the server then close up.
Me: I'm heading out for the day. We should have our gear by the end of the week.
Tom: Have a good night
