Starter Synthesizer for an experienced DAW producer

So for context I have been a producer since 16 (23 now) so I do have some familiarity with production, sound design & song structure. I have never owned a piece of hardware, have been fully DAW oriented, & I am looking to do so as I’m diversifying my sound. I want to know what a good (preferably affordable $500 cap) synthesizer would be for me who is somewhat familiar, but still new to the whole thing. I should also mention I typically favor a more ambient & dark sound. So if there’s anything you think would benefit that sound please let me know
