Recommend me a brooding dark romantic novel please.

I really enjoyed watching In Mood For Love and 2046 from Wong Kar Wai. Looking for a book that has the same dark brooding atmosphere, with dreamy emotional characters, full of desire and anticipation. I guess you have to have seen the two movies to recommend me. (In the context of this request I didn't like Chunking Express at all)
