I've recently really cracked down on myself. There's a reason I'm hardly here, lol. I wanted to share my current process for creating goals and achieving them in 2024. If you have any other goal ideas, put em below.
Firstly, my snowballing budget binder savings have been a literal life saver. We had to buy a new car unexpectedly. I'm still financially okay even after all of that.
2024 Income Goals
Start by defining clearly what your goal income is. Then make a guesstimate of how much taxes you'll owe on said income. Use a calculator online to do it or whatever you want. I was lazy so I marked down 30% to save for taxes.
Define where the money is going to come from. If your goal is to make $100k but you only made $40k this year, figure out why. Did you not work enough days? What's your average right now? If you did work a lot and not hit your goals, you need to find out exactly where the other $60k is gonna come from. It don't grow on trees baby.
Identify possible roadblocks and their solutions.
EXAMPLE:
physically exhausted so you skip work -> stretch 20 minutes after every shift and drink a smoothie in the morning
mentally tired so you skip work -> begin journaling to get the bad night juju out, spend 20 minutes every morning doing meditation/breathing exercises/whatever
unorganized bag mindset creating anxiety around work -> save an extra house fee after a shift and organize your work bag at the beginning of each week
Write down your steps (actions) you'll take the upcoming year to secure your income. This is something I DIDN'T do last year that affected my income. I hit roadblock after roadblock trying to figure out what the fuck was wrong, the answer was : lack of preparation. My own fault, there's no denying that. I could have made TRIPLE what I made this year if I'd prepared properly.
Don't overload yourself with goals.
Start with three to five very manageable goals. Create action plans for every single one of them. All your goals need to have the roadblocks steps identified. Otherwise you're going to go "I want to save for a house :)" and then forget all about it for a little while until around the last three months of the year. No ma'am.
Let's say your goal is to save $10k for a house, or boobs, or whatever-- set goals and deadlines for those goals. $2500 per season, for example. Now you need to add in an extra shift or something to make that, lol.
Don't sit and pile on 20 different goals at once, or you'll become overwhelmed and just avoid doing it. You can add more over time.
General Goal Inspiration
(change the numbers to whatever you want lol)
Buy a house / house down payment
Buy a new car or pay off your current car
Pay for your plastic surgery / cosmetic upgrades
Max out a Roth IRA
Put $20k in a HYSA
Invest $10k into the stock market
Go on a vacation to somewhere tropical
Pay off your tuition
Save for an entire year of health insurance
Save all of your bills under $100 for an entire year
Build a well rounded emergency fund
Save $10k for your kids future college expenses or
Save $10k for your future kid if you don't have one right now but want one later on
Find another source of income
Pay off all of your debt
And remember: BEWARE of lifestyle creep!
Ahh thank you <3
I don't really have many resources for it. Here's what I suggest though: sit down and allot 30 minutes to an hour out of your day (on a set day) to look into it. Being overwhelmed is normal, I suggest keeping a checklist or a scratch sheet of paper. If you don't understand something, scribble it down and then after a small break look into those specific things.
Here's this by nerd wallet on opening a ROTH IRA
Roth IRA is just a retirement investing account that is supposed to grow $$ over time, basically. You put money in and the hope is that it grows over the years, so that when you're old and ready to stop working you have funds to use tax free. Use their ROTH IRA Calculator for a more visual look on how it works.
