Any tips for doom in current version?

I’m a new player with about 15-20 hours, I just got the Doom and love it but I’m not very good at piloting it. Wondering if there are any upgrades or things that can improve the speed, also wondering if it’s worth building in heavy armor or using the better maneuverability mod.
