Silent Hill 2 taking things from RE4 and TLOU might not be the worst thing.

I recently remembered that one open level in The Last of Us Part 2, I think with that sort of level design with a horror focus could work great for the outside of Silent Hill in the remake. Following clues leading to various buildings and minor stories and stuff. That or something like the Village in RE8, not as complex as Silent Hill or Seattle but still an amazing non linear locale.
