Workflow Manager Backend Service troubleshooting

Back end service keeps failing, various errors and varying instance ids... trying to troubleshoot but the WF instance ids given arent present on the dbo.instance table :/
Any pro tips on chasing down workflow instance ids, viewing the pending queue of workflow instances.
Been and still googling but WFM documentation is spotty beyond install and "blow it away and reinstall it" :/
