Hi Folks,
I am looking to move some files around in SharePoint Online, and keep version history. I am moving files inside the same site, so the go-to solution I have found while googling is to use file explorer.
There is a small problem though. Complete version history is not moved over. Allow me to explain: When you move files using file explorer, the version history is indeed retained, but the most recent version is wiped out by the move. I have tested this quite a bit, and whenever I move a file with version history it keeps all vesions of the file, but the most recent version author and date is changed to the current date, and user I am moving the files with.
Sharegate looks to be able to solve this problem, but apart from the large price tag, it looks like there is quite a few steps to setup a move.
I have to move a lot of files in different sites and libraries, so this is not viable for the speed in which I want to achieve it.
Does anyone know of a way to move files, file explorer style, while still holding onto the latest version author and date?
