Today a 20-something YWD former-SGI-member called me. Let's call her Mary. I haven't spoken to Mary for probably about 2 years before this. She actually figured out that SGI was a cult before I ever did. Pretty smart young person.

Her mom ("Barbara") joined SGI around the same time as her daughter, Mary-- both about 2-3 years ago. Barbara, being the sad, lonely older woman she is, bought into the SGI full on. Mary, as mentioned, stopped practicing shortly after she joined.

Both Mary and her mom Barbara are crazaaaayyyyyyy. They've both had drug problems (not sure if they still do, but it is likely) and the young woman, Mary, is extremely manipulative. When I was a YWD leader, Mary used to tell me all about her problems with her mom... mainly that her mother didn't approve of her boyfriend (he is bad news and was in jail a couple years ago) and Barbara even kicked Mary out of the house before (for god knows what). The Women's Division leader I used to lead our district with once told me that Mary, was basically a "devilish function" in her mom's life. WHO THE FUCK calls someone else's kid a devil!?

Anyway, fast forward to today.... when Mary called me. I knew I should have just ignored it, but my curiosity got the best of me. Was this SGI-hating kid calling me for a May Contribution!? Had they suckered her back in!?

In fact, no. She was not calling about getting money for SGI. But rather to just vent to me (because she says that I understand about all the SGI stuff) about how terrible her SGI- practicing mother is. Mary still lives at home (or was, until last week), and she told me her mom chants ALL day EVERY day. Clearly Barbara is not working right now so apparently all she thinks she should do is chant? Well, of course this was driving Mary nuts as she has also been stuck at home, jobless, since the whole Coronavirus thing.

Mary then goes on to tell me the most nonsensical bullshit I've ever heard about her mom calling the cops on her "for no reason," and the cops show up and issue Mary a restraining order that Barbara had taken out against her! So Mary has to leave her mom's house, and she says she doesn't know why her mom is doing this to her. Barbara had the cops search Mary's room, suggesting that Mary was hiding drugs. Mary says it was a lie and her mom was the one always asking her for crack. (Probably a huge lie, because as I said, Mary is manipulative).

So now Mary is living at her bad boyfriend's family's house and without a job. I had to listen to this crazy chick ramble about this story for 7 full minutes before I cut her off because I was literally driving to work. I warned her that I only had a little time to talk to her, but could call her back after work. She insisted she tell me everything in that short time span, though.

I told her I didn't believe what she was saying because you can't take a restraining order against somebody for no reason, and why would her mom do that? I mean, her mom might be obsessed with chanting, but I spent quite a bit of time with her mom when I was practicing and she was always a sweet, kind older woman. Then again, people can be completely different with their own family, so who the fuck knows. Apparently the chanting is not "bringing fortune" to their family.

I got off the phone with Mary and decided to text her just a little piece of advice about her situation: that she needs to get another job and become independent so that she doesn't have to rely on other people like her boyfriend or his family. She wrote me a very long text in reply saying that she's in a better place in life than she was before, suggesting that she show me some of the salon work she's done (in case I want to help promote her, lol), and defending herself against her mom, who she says just wants to turn everyone against her.

Crazy is as crazy does! Why does SGI recruit so many crazies?
