I haven't hung out with SGI people in 8 months, except for the fact that I'm still good friends with 2 people that chant, one of whom still goes to meetings. I don't even really associate them with SGI in my brain anymore because we became actual good friends outside of the org.

I was recently hanging out with these two friends, catching up, shooting the shit. The one chanting friend told a story of how he almost got stuck abroad, right before the whole shut down happened, but he happened to fly back a few days before that. The other friend immediately said, "It's the chanting!!!" And he actually paused and hesitated for a moment in response, and was like, "True!" and then continued his story.

Agh, it was just sooooo.... aaaaagh. Cringey. Particularly so because I was ALWAYS that person when I was practicing. Just fucking WAITING for a moment to throw in a word about our all great and powerful chant.
