How many times have you heard an SGI member say something like "I had a big breakthrough this week!" or "I'm chanting to have a breakthrough at work!" or "I can't seem to have my breakthrough, even after chanting for 20 years and devoting countless hours and dollars (to the SGI cult)!!! I guess I have some really heavy karma!!! Maybe I need another shakabuku!!?"
I was wondering about the exact definition of the word "breakthrough" because who the hell ever actually uses that word in regular life, other than SGI members?
And... surprise surprise.... the first definition is a WAR TERM.
From the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
Breakthrough
1) warfare : an offensive military assault that penetrates and carries beyond a defensive line
How very interesting. I'm NOT surprised that one of their key buzzwords is a war term, considering how much the SGI just LOVES using war lingo.
Victory
Obstacle
Enemy
Fight
Win
A "breakthrough" in war happens when one side forcefully attacks the other side that is trying to protect itself. Sounds familiar in the SGI realm, where members think it is their right to force their beliefs upon those around them, no matter how many times the person says, "No thanks, not interested."
Here's the second definition of the word: " an act or instance of moving through or beyond an obstacle."
Okay, that makes a little more sense... but is a lack of a love life, or an abusive partner, or a shitty boss, or fake friends really something that "impedes progress or achievement"? (Definition of obstacle). If anything the person chanting to "breakthrough" these "obstacles" is really just chanting for themselves. They are their own obstacle. They are the ones not standing up to an abusive partner or shitty boss or fake friends. I realize that's easier said than done. It takes a lot of courage-- something the SGI spouts on about all day, but doesn't show an inkling of when it comes to real world situations.
To anyone practicing with SGI who is desperately trying to have a "breakthrough" in their life.... stop chanting, make a plan, and just fucking do it.
