Are images such as the Starfleet insignia and the Playstation controller (well-known images) copyrighted?
Post Body

Topic. I Googled, but there was a lot of conflicting information and many threads, some of which were a few years ago. Laws do change, so I thought I would ask here for the most updated info, as I assume I am not the only one wondering about this.

I'm aware that Paramount has copyrighted almost all materials related to Star Trek, but the insignia? They can't copyright the words "phaser" or "photon torpedoes" to my knowledge. For Sony they can copyright many things related to the Playstation, but what about the actual controller shape?

While I know a bit about copyright law, I am not a lawyer, hence my questions.
