Receivable Performance Management: Legitimate Company or scam? Also, incontinence.
Post Body

To set the scene, I have had my current phone number for about 6 months or so. It is a recycled number. That means that if I cancel my wireless service, the next customer gets that same exact number. I also do not have anything in collections, nor do I owe any money.

So, about a week ago I get this weird phone call. I pick up the phone, and there is NO ONE there. No breathing, not a cough, nothing. All I hear is some pop song playing. Sometimes, with telemarketers, there's a delay, and it takes a few seconds for the call to "register" on the other end. I think it's a machine trying to make sure I'm a live person or something. So I said "hello?" several more times. Nothing. Just more music. I did this for about a full minute, and there was absolutely no one on the line. That song just kept playing and nothing else happened. So I hung up and forgot about it.

Then, that same number started calling repeatedly, with the exact same scenario. There's no one on the line, and a random song is playing. It started waking me up from a dead sleep. I have a chronic illness, and I cannot afford to lose sleep. It was starting to get annoying. I tried calling them back, but it just rang and rang.

Then, another strange number started calling with the exact same scenario. No response and just a random song. Unable to call them back. Weird.

My phone cannot block numbers, and I don't have a silent ringtone. So I assigned the least-intrusive ringtone I had, and started doing some research. I found out that a lot of debt-free people are experiencing the exact same calls with no sound or response other than a song and being unable to call them back.

The calls originate from a company called Receivable Performance Management. It often shows up on caller IDs as "ReceivablePerf." They claim to be a debt collection company, but a lot of people seem to be having issues with the company that go beyond typical debt-collector pestering. It doesn't take much digging to find a ton of stories.

I will add the business information if needed. The Better Business Bureau gives you a name, address, yet another telephone number, several email addresses, and hundreds of complaints.

In the mean time, I was still getting more of these stupid calls. Sometimes as late as 10:30 at night.

So last night, on a Sunday, in the middle of the afternoon, I sent an email (from a disposable email address) to all the email addresses I had for them. I said that they had been calling me repeatedly from two different numbers even though I do not owe anyone money. I said that I cannot call these numbers back, so if you don't knock it off already, I'm calling a lawyer. I got an email back immediately - on a Sunday, no less - telling me that they'd stop. I will provide the name of the person who responded if needed. Also, the person who responded had, in part, this to say:

"I have removed your number from the file and do apologize of any incontinence that may have occurred."

Incontinence. INCONTINENCE. That's not a typo. That's not a slip of the wrist. That's ignorance.

This is a very weird company to me.

  • I've never answered a phone call with no one there and some stupid song playing. I have experienced that whole 2-or-3-second delay, and then a live telemarketer picks up, but not a minute-long void where no one's there and it's just a song playing.
  • I have a recycled number, so sometimes, I will get calls from debt collectors looking for the person who used to use my cell phone number. I simply tell them that they have the wrong person, and they never call back. If I miss the call, I call them back, and the same thing happens. There is never an issue like there is with this Receivable Performance Management place.
  • One of the email addresses I emailed came back as undeliverable. Also, I have sent hundreds of emails to different businesses. I have NEVER gotten a response back within 30 minutes, and especially not on a Sunday.
  • "Incontinence"?? Really!?
  • On the other hand, the BBB claims that Receivable Performance Management resolved a good number of its complaints and rates it as a good business.
  • My brother claims that it is a legitimate business, as he does owe some money, and has gotten calls from them before.

Has anyone else encountered this company?

TL; DR: Sketchy "Debt collector" company mistakenly calls me repeatedly. They are unreachable via phone. I send them an email, threatening legal action. They say they will stop, and are sorry for the "incontinence." WTF.
