Hello,

Now is an exciting and crucial time for Feral Hosting, a lot has been planned over the next few months and I wanted to keep you well informed of the great things to come.

First of all, we're moving everything to Amsterdam, Netherlands into Interxion. This will bring:

• a world-class facility to host our servers: Interxion are one of the best in their field;
• stronger guarantees: 99.999% power uptime SLA (2N), additional physical security;
• room to grow indefinitely: a lot of power and space reserved in our own cage;
• the need to never move again: we're planning to stay for many many years;
• and most importantly: a carrier-neutral data centre allowing us to buy bandwidth from 40 carriers.

This means we will be building our own network and will have a lot more control over how bandwidth is delivered. Our plan is to connect to multiple carriers while selecting the fastest routes from each. We will then start connecting directly to your ISP to eliminate potential issues. Interxion do not sell bandwidth, instead choosing to focus on providing the best facility possible. We are building a Feral network!

From day one we hope to add AMS-IX and Fiber Ring (a sister company of Leaseweb) connectivity which should result in better connections to Europe. After that the only thing holding us back is negotiating the right price. A perfect platform from which to look at improving connections to the US and Asia.

We are also proud to say that we have done our part and ensured our current uplinks have remained uncongested even while we have seen tremendous growth. Last week we hit the 60 Gbps mark---a level that most data centres do not see. I want to do more to emphasise our commitment to no congestion by offering network transparency: eventually revealing what the speeds and capabilities of each of our servers, switches, routers and even our transit uplinks.

Naturally, we'll pass improvements and savings on by eventually increasing upload quotas.

To do this--and here's where it gets awkward--we need to move all of our existing hardware to the Netherlands. The plan is to have everything packaged, insured, then driven to the Netherlands by a trusted company that specialises in handling our equipment. It will not take more than 2-3 days and you will be compensated the time it took plus 50% more.

By taking this approach we're avoiding the much slower method of upgrading everyone one at a time over the next year. We'll get it done quickly in classic no-nonsense fashion leaving us to focus on the important things.

Interxion will be ready for us to move in on the 4th November, however it might happen the week prior. We will update you with more information as we get it closer to the time as we get a concrete date. The move will occur on a week day.

Finally, we are looking at replacing our network cards so that we can use fibre optics everywhere. It will also bring a number of speed improvements that are always welcomed. To do this we will be taking the opportunity to evaluate and find out what is currently best on the market. We might be sending out an e-mail to announce a small bit of downtime while the current card is replaced. Unless, on opening the server, it is found that tiny little hamsters have been running the show all along, replacement will only take a few minutes.

We can then come to a decision and replace all network cards during the move to the Netherlands and build out a fully redundant fibre network offering, 20 Gbps per server.
